John McCain is OK with cutting Social Security benefits – deeply. A massive increase in debt? That’s fine. too. (I thought Republicans were supposed to be fiscally conservative?!)

3/15/05 – Senate Amdt. 145 – To express the sense of the Senate that Congress should reject any Social Security plan that requires deep benefit cuts or a massive increase in debt.

Insolvency of Social Security Not A High Priority For McCain

One Independent and 44 Democratic Senators wanted to put a high priority on making sure that Social Security will still be solvent for the next 75 years. John McCain and 54 Republican Senators didn’t think it was important. How important is it to you?

3/15/05 – Senate Amdt. 144 – To ensure that 75-year solvency has been restored to Social Security before Congress considers new deficit-financed legislation that would increase mandatory spending or cut taxes.
